First conference announcement save the dates!

SAIOH takes pleasure in inviting you to attend and participate in its upcoming Annual Conference, which will be held in the Cradle of Humankind in Gauteng. In keeping with the Conference theme – ‘Occupational Hygiene: Building Bridges Beyond Borders’, SAIOH is in the process of developing an exciting and stimulating conference programme, and is proud to announce that you can look forward to the following:


Three international keynote presenters:

o Marianne Levitsky – President of Workplace Health Without Borders; Occupational Hygienist and Senior Associate at ECOH Management Inc., Canada – ‘Workplace health and the global hygiene community’

o Eric Esswein – Senior Occupational Hygienist, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH, CDC), USA – ‘Decision-making in the midst of uncertainty: an occupational hygienist responding to bioterrorism, SARS and Ebola’

o Jérôme Lavoué – Associate Professor, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, University of Montreal, Canada – ‘Exposure statistics’


Four pre-conference Professional Development Courses (PDCs):

o ‘Global health, community and culture’ – presented by Marianne Levitsky

o ‘Determining worker exposure risks in modern oil and gas extraction: implications for the Karoo?’ – presented by Eric Esswein

o ‘Occupational radon exposure management systems and mitigation challenges – for the construction sector, and beyond’ – presented by Ryno Botha (CareTac CEO and Co-Founder)

o ‘Evaluating the effectiveness of an industrial ventilation system to ensure airborne pollutant exposure compliance’ – presented by Johan Snyman (BEng Mechanical) – BBE Consulting


Invited regional and national presenters:

•  A session dedicated to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD)

•  A session dedicated to ‘All Things Certification’, presented by members of SAIOH’s PCC

•  Sessions dedicated to sister organisations in Occupational Health Southern Africa and to student presentations

•  Free Paper sessions (oral and poster presentations) –  a call for abstracts will be made in due course
